The Art of the Panel and Other Works

The portfolio on these pages runs the gamut from acrylic on panels with high gloss resin finishes to mark-making on paper, from abstract to semi-realism. The medium for the panels and canvas is generally acrylic paint but, sometimes I may throw in a little latex that I pick up off the sample table at the local hardware store.

The pieces are finished with a thick, durable epoxy (unless otherwise noted) which adds depth and richness to the final product. The coating process is quite challenging and perfection is difficult to achieve. The process is very precise. The steps must be followed exactly for a good result.

Until recently, my garage had been my studio: rain or shine, hot or cold. And, I usually worked in front of an audience made up of my harshest critics: Bella and Blossom. Even though they were rescued from certain detention at the pound, they are relentless in their comments regarding my work and my presence in their domain. You know the old cremudgeons in all the Muppet movies? Picture them in a black coat of dog hair. Man's best friend? Maybe, maybe not.

I trust you will see something that is intriguing, evocative or at least interesting. While each piece has a story you won't find a lot of artist-ese. That is, deep comments on juxtaposition, parallelisms or anything else that only the artist and a couple of sycophants would understand (my apologies to the rest of the art world). The stories are just me sharing the thoughts or feelings that evolved for me.
